RSV is one of the most common causes of childhood illness. Almost all children get an RSV infection by the time they are 2 years old. According to the CDC, in the U.S. there are 2.1 million outpatient visits for RSV among children younger than 5 years old in an average year. It is likely that many more are infected but do not seek medical treatment.
