- When you are ready to collect your sample, register your kit online at ondemand.labcorp.com/register.
- Place all kit contents on a clean, dry surface. Remove the blood collection device, sterile gauze pad, and bandaid from the packages and set aside.
- Wash your hands with soap and warm water and dry thoroughly.
- Choose the finger you want to lancet. Generally, the best site for a finger prick is on the side of the finger tip of the 3rd (middle) or 4th (ring) finger of your non-dominant hand.
- Rest your forearm on a solid surface such as a countertop or table. With your palm facing up, the tip of the lancet will be placed slightly off the center of the fingertip you cleaned (as indicated above).
- Twist and pull the blue cap off of the lancet. Hold the lancet between your thumb and forefinger. To activate, press the lancet firmly against the fingertip. Do not remove the lancet until you hear a “click.” Then release the lancet. Wipe off first drop of blood with gauze.
- Hold your finger over the red funnel of the collection device. Gently apply pressure across your palm and along the finger up to the puncture site. Add blood to the red funnel of the collection device until all three tubes in the viewing window are full.
- Use the gauze pad to apply pressure to your finger to stop the bleeding.
- Detach the funnel by lifting and pulling it off the blood collection stick. Close the collection device slowly by pushing both ends firmly towards each other.
- Open the sample return bag and place the blood collection device inside. Completely seal the bag.
- Place the sealed sample return bag into the blue kit box and close. Place the kit box into the USPS return pack. Remove the adhesive cover strip and seal the return pack closed. Place the postage paid return pack in your mailbox for mailing back to the lab. Mail the package within 24 hours of collection.
